ABSTRACT :
The biological reserve represents the cumulative resources of the entire body, which influence the ability to maintain the vital functions. The functional and structural resources of the body determine its ability to maintain homeostasis in the face of internal or external stress, whether physiological, pathological or medical-surgical. The evaluation of the biological reserve is a fundamental stage in contemporary medicine, which must be emphasized in several hypostases of the doctor-patient contact in order to establish the intensity and duration of treatment, reduce polypragmatism or any unnecessary prolongation of treatment, avoid inhibition of homeostasis and reparative mechanisms that are naturally triggered in the presence of stress. The purpose of this review is to highlight the importance of the concept of biological reserve and to highlight its role in modern medicine.
