EXPLORING THE PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE OF POST-CVA PATIENTS. IMPLICATIONS FOR RECOVERY AND LIFE QUALITY

ABSTRACT :

The present paper provides a detailed vision of the psychological profile of post-CVA patients and of the recovery strategies involved. It analyzes the results of the psychological characteristics of a sample of 541 men and 554 women with an average age of 64 years, having suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), starting from nine studies derived from the objectives had in view, the final scope being to identify the psychological profile of post-CVA persons. This scientific approach involved a combined application of several evaluation methods, including clinical interviews, observations on patient behaviour, analysis of medical documents and of the psychological tests performed. The significant traits of the psychological profile have been
objectively deduced. The conclusions reached at synthesize the essential elements of the present research, outlining the importance of a minute psychological evaluation of CVA patients, which may contribute to the identification of their specific needs, facilitating the development of some global
approaches and of personalized recovery strategies, thus improving their life quality.
