ABSTRACT :

In this scientific review we aim to analyse the complicated relationship between human development, waste generation and environmental impact. Thus, we will highlight the challenges generated by the exponential growth of waste production globally, determined by factors such as population growth, urbanization and
industrialization. We will highlight the negative effects of poor waste management on the environment, public health and welfare. We will also address the importance of waste reduction strategies such as selective collection and recycling of waste in mitigating pollution and promoting environmental sustainability. Finally, we will emphasize the urgent need for sustainable waste management practices, in countries like Romania, in order to protect the environment and human health.
